Rokky Makes Bold Move, Acquires ChinaPlay Store in Game-Changing Deal
In a significant shift for the mobile gaming and app distribution landscape across Asia, Rokky has officially acquired ChinaPlay Store, which is one of China’s largest third-party Android marketplaces. The announcement of the acquisition, which had been quietly negotiated for several months, was confirmed in a joint press statement from the companies today.
While the parties involved did not disclose the actual total amount of the acquisition, insiders familiar with the deal expect it to be in the high hundreds of millions, possibly exceeding the billion mark with stock options and performance milestones after the merger is considered.
For those who might not know, ChinaPlay Store is commonly known all over Asia, with over 200 million active users, and is a major app distribution outlet in a region where Google Play has limited access. The ChinaPlay Store model’s success has been created with a combination of localized content curation, developer tools, and a strong user base of loyal customers.
Rokky continues to position itself as a growing ecosystem of digital services, from mobile gaming platform to app analytics and publishing, and has taken a strong stance for growth. This acquisition represents a strong strategic turn to be able to control app distribution infrastructure, in a very important growth market.
The acquisition was a many-month process that began in the fourth quarter of 2024 when Rokky began informal conversations with the leadership team at ChinaPlay. The conversations intensified after Rokky revealed its “Vision 2026” plan, an aggressive strategic plan to be the leader in mobile content delivery in Asia-Pacific.
Separately, ChinaPlay was looking for ways to scale internationally and manage additional regulation complexity in mainland China. It was a natural fit, the insiders suggested.
Rokky instantly reaches four of the largest Android app distributors in Asia.
It obtains ChinaPlay’s proprietary AI-based recommendation engine, instrumental to its user retention.
Developers across Southeast Asia and India may have new monetization and internationalization opportunities through Rokky’s wider distribution reach.
Consumers can expect a unified app store experience that combines ChinaPlay’s regional touch with Rokky’s global service quality.
Rokky has confirmed that over the next six months:
The ChinaPlay brand will” operate independently on a gradual journey into Rokky AppHub.
A new developer console “RokkyPlay” will launch, which seems an effective combination of the best of both platforms.
Also planned are some Rokky-backed mobile devices with the Rokky-Chinaplay hybrid store pre-installed, which could perhaps mean a vertically integrated ecosystem from app to device.
Meanwhile, ChinaPlay’s 300-person team, most based in Shenzhen and Shanghai, will join Rokky’s global workforce, and Lin Wei will transition into an advisory role, focusing on compliance and cultural integration.
This is not simply a corporate acquisition it represents a tectonic change in how mobile content may be discovered, distributed, and monetized across the world’s most mobile-first regions. If Rokky executes well, they will not only own a platform, but they could also define the next generation of digital marketplaces.
