Diablo IV Free on PlayStation Plus in July: A Major Win for Gamers

In a major announcement that has thrilled fans of action RPGs, Blizzard’s Diablo IV is now available for free to PlayStation Plus Essential subscribers throughout the month of July 2025. This offer is part of PlayStation’s celebration of its 15th anniversary of the PlayStation Plus service, and it has brought one of the most popular AAA titles of recent years into the hands of millions at no extra cost.

Released in 2023, Diablo IV quickly became a fan favorite for its deep lore, dark gothic atmosphere, and addictive gameplay loop. The game allows players to choose from five main character classes—Barbarian, Sorcerer, Rogue, Druid, and Necromancer—each with its own combat style and skill tree. With its expansive open world, intense dungeon crawling, and live-service model of seasonal content, Diablo IV offers countless hours of immersive gameplay, whether solo or in online co-op.

The inclusion of Diablo IV in the monthly PS Plus lineup marks a shift in strategy by Sony. Traditionally, the service offered indie or older games to its basic-tier subscribers, while premium titles were reserved for higher subscription levels. This month, however, all three games—Diablo IV, The King of Fighters XV, and Jusant—are available for PS Plus Essential, the most affordable tier. It’s seen by many as Sony’s way of showing appreciation to its loyal community and competing directly with Xbox Game Pass’s offerings.

But while the news was met with excitement, there were initial hiccups. Many players in Europe and Asia reported issues claiming Diablo IV through the PlayStation Store. These errors occurred mainly due to conflicts with earlier beta versions or expired trials still linked to players’ accounts. The recommended solution was to claim the game directly from a PS5 console rather than the mobile app or website, which worked for most users.

This offer is also well-timed, as Diablo IV’s next major expansion, Vessel of Hatred, is scheduled for release in October 2025. By bringing more players into the base game now, Blizzard and Sony may be laying the groundwork for higher engagement when the DLC drops.

All three games in the July lineup will be available until August 4, 2025, giving subscribers plenty of time to add them to their libraries. Whether you’re a veteran demon slayer or someone curious to try the series for the first time, this is the perfect opportunity to dive into the hellish world of Sanctuary—for free.
